Introduction

Science can be very fun and interesting. In this experiment, you will learn a little science while making a big mess.

Purpose

• To participate in science activities
• To reinforce curriculum in Science

Time

This activity will take no more than 5 minutes.

Materials

• 2 litter bottle of soda, diet preferred
• Roll of Mentos candy mints
• Index card
• Piece of paper

Directions

• This activity should be done outside, preferably over grass
• Open the bottle of soda and position it on the ground so that it will not tip over
• Unwrap the roll of Mentos.
• The trick is to get all of the Mentos in the bottle at once. To do this, make a funnel or tube out of a piece of paper.
• Hold the index card over the mouth of the bottle.
• When the Mentos are lined up with the mouth of the bottle, move the index card, drop the Mentos, and back away.
