Introduction
Every
person has been brought to where they are by the events
that have occurred throughout their lives. It is important
to both understand how you came to the place you are
in now and to think about the future. In this activity,
you will produce a timeline looking at your past and
into your future, including school, job, family, etc.
Purpose
•
To be aware of middle school, high school, college,
and trade school
• To discuss the link between school and jobs
• To reinforce curriculum in English (through
writing) and history (through practice of timelines)
Time
The
activity can be done in one meeting (approximately 30
– 75 minutes).
Materials
•
Paper
• Glue
• Markers
• Miscellaneous craft supplies
• Pictures (if desired)
Directions
•
Begin by talking about major events during your Dreamers
life and share your own personal stories.
• Have your Dreamer write out a list of major
events to be included in the timeline.
• Create a timeline that starts with birth and
continues into the future.
• While making the timeline, discuss options for
future education (university or trade school) and career
possibilities. Emphasize the importance of an education
in your Dreamers future.
• Dream Partners can make a timeline as well,
and when finished, Dreamers and Dream Partners can discuss
past histories and future goals.
o
This will help reiterate that a person should continue
to have dreams and goals throughout the course of
their lives, and that adults continue to set goals
for themselves as well.
